Bold Kitchens: Our Favourite Design Trends for 2021

Are you looking to completely redesign your kitchen this year, or perhaps just repaint? Whether you’re looking for new fittings, furniture or colours, there are plenty of new design trends you can incorporate into your own kitchen. So if you’re after inspiration, read on for some of the top colourful kitchen design trends of 2021 that are bound to brighten up your kitchen.

2021: The Year of Creative, Colourful Kitchens

With people spending more time indoors, we are looking for inspiring colours and shades in the home. This has led to bold, colourful kitchens becoming much more popular. Greens, reds and blues are all in. But don’t fear, this doesn’t mean garish glossy paint. In fact, people are opting for muted primary shades as a smart way to inject more character into their clean, contemporary units. Deep forest greens and navy blues are beautiful colours that are currently having a big moment in kitchens.

Balancing colour in the kitchen is the key to a sophisticated look. Splashbacks are becoming an increasingly popular way to bring colour into the kitchen. Whether that’s making a statement with a darker shade or a textured stone finish, a colourful splashback can be the perfect accent for neutral or grey cabinets.

This same thinking is inspiring new ideas with flooring. Instead of opting for plain tiles from wall to wall, newer designs use tiles as a way to create distinct zones. If the cabinets and worktops are relatively plain, that gives more ground for the tiles to incorporate intricate patterns without creating visual clutter. Mediterranean influences, terrazzo tiles and herringbone patterns are just some ideas you could consider for your kitchen.

Whilst neutral colours will always be popular, recent designs are experimenting with two-tone finishes. This means balancing two main shades, whether that means a darker colour on your cabinets and a lighter colour elsewhere. You can apply the same thinking to the way you use textures and materials.

Of course, recent trends haven’t forgotten to give attention to the smaller fittings. Statement taps are a great way to create a kitchen focal point. We use them every day, so it’s about time they were given more thought. Why not be bold with brass?

You can apply similar thinking to other finishes around the kitchen. If you’re not opting for a handleless design, then give your handles, hinges and knobs plenty of thought. The right handles offer an easy way to complement a colourful kitchen.
