10 ways to maximise your bathroom space

There’s no reason you can’t think big with your small bathroom designs! Whether you’re starting from scratch, or looking to refurbish, you can fit a lot more than you think into a modest bathroom.

It’s all about managing space. With careful use of space, you can create a beautiful small bathroom without sacrificing on features. That means a better looking, more functional, brighter bathroom – without the need to knock down walls.

So read on for some things to think about, and incorporate, when working on your small bathroom designs.

1. Don’t shy away from bold colours

Creating Light, Space and Room for All Your Things

Before placing anything in your bathroom, it’s important to think about light. Natural light instantly brightens up a small space, making it feel larger. If you have a window, try to keep it clear and unobstructed.

The sun isn’t always out, of course, so you’ll want bright ambient lighting paired with light, neutral colours on your walls. Discard imposing lampshades, and consider picking up a large mirror to reflect the light and create the illusion of more room.

Flooring can also be used to increase the feeling of roominess. Consider feature flooring that matches the shades of your walls. Again, lighter colours are your friend when it comes to small bathroom design.

Now it’s time for furnishings. If your floor space is particularly limited, consider a wall mounted sink. These could even be fitted into a corner, using up otherwise awkward space.

Don’t have room for cabinets? That doesn’t mean you have to give up on storage altogether. Consider wall mounted or recessed shelving. Alternatively, swap out a regular mirror for a small mirrored cabinet.

It can be tricky to fit a bath or shower into your small bathroom designs, but there are products out there that can help. Corner showers are one way to fit a shower into the smallest of spaces. But you don’t necessarily need a standalone frame. A shower could just as easily flow into a recessed part of the floor partitioned by a shower curtain, or opt-for a wetroom shower.

You can also think outside the old box-shape when it comes to baths. There are baths in every kind of shape and size on the market made to maximise space. Sloping lines or corner shapes could help you fit a bath in your room.
